These distributions will be installed automatically when installing Flask.

Use 'python -m pip' instead of running 'pip' or 'pip3' - that way the pip and python versions always match, whichever you currently have selected as 'python'. I'd recommend you look at Conda as well - it's especially handy for people who aren't familiar with system administration. Install Python 3.4.1 (Python 2.7 is already installed by default). Download Xcode from the Mac App Store. Sudo pip install pillow; pip3.4 install pillow. On Mac, go to the folder: “/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/Extras/lib/python”, delete the folder of the package (e.g., gensim). Then the system will use the latest. Questions: OS X (Mavericks) has Python 2.7 stock installed. But I do all my own personal Python stuff with 3.3. I just flushed my 3.3.2 install and installed the new 3.3.3. So I need to install pyserial again. I can do it the way I’ve done it before, which is: Download pyserial from pypi untar. By default MacOS ships with Python-2. But, I guess most of us have long back started to work with Python-3 and it is very irritating to run python3 every time instead of python in terminal.

  • Click is a framework for writing command line applications. It providesthe flask command and allows adding custom management commands.

Optional dependencies¶

These distributions will not be installed automatically. Flask will detect anduse them if you install them.

  • Blinker provides support for Signals.

  • SimpleJSON is a fast JSON implementation that is compatible withPython’s json module. It is preferred for JSON operations if it isinstalled.

  • python-dotenv enables support for Environment Variables From dotenv when running flaskcommands.

  • Watchdog provides a faster, more efficient reloader for the developmentserver.

Pip install to python 2.7

OS X (Mavericks) has Python 2.7 stock installed. But I do all my own personal Python stuff with 3.3. I just flushed my 3.3.2 install and installed the new 3.3.3. So I need to install pyserial again. I can do it the way I’ve done it before, which is:

  1. Download pyserial from pypi
  2. untar pyserial.tgz
  3. cd pyserial
  4. python3 setup.py install

But I’d like to do like the cool kids do, and just do something like pip3 install pyserial. But it’s not clear how I get to that point. And just that point. Not interested (unless I have to be) in virtualenv yet.

UPDATE: This is no longer necessary with Python3.4. It installs pip3 as part of the stock install.

I had to go through this process myself and chose a different way that I think is better in the long run.

The last step gives you some warnings and errors that you have to resolve. One of those will be to download and install the Mac OS X command-line tools.
